Figure 18  Common 18 – Orifices Auto Size

This example models an Orifice where the size of orifice diameter is unknown and the Pipe Flow Expert software automatically calculates the diameter of the orifice based on the flow rate required.


Pipe Flow Expert supports Sharp Edged, Round Edged, Bevel Edged and Thick Edged orifices.


The software allows the user to specify additional data as appropriate to the type of orifice that is defined, such as rounding radius, bevel thickness, bevel angle, and plate thickness, and the software takes account of this information when calculating the size of diameter needed for the given flow rate.


Orifices are widely used in piping systems to provide a regular and reproducible loss of pressure.  

Orifices are used to limit flow, to balance flow distributions in branching systems, and to measure flow.
