Figure 49  Common Gas 06 – Back Pressure Valve

Some of the flow in a pipeline is diverted into a branch line and and needs to be delivered at a flow rate of 20000 SCMH and a pressure of 500 psi.g.

Without a valve in the pipeline, the pressure at the branch junction is lower than the outlet pressure required (500 psig). A Back Pressure Valve (BPV) has been added to pipe P2 to increase the pressure at the branch junction, thus increasing the pressure at the branch outlet delivery point to 501.5 psi.g.
