Common Gas 07 – Compressor Find Pressure Required
Figure 50 Common Gas 07 – Compressor Find Pressure Required
Hydrogen is to be transferred between two tanks which are 400 m apart. The steel pipeline size is 32 mm nominal (1-1/4" nominal). The tank pressures are 2100 kPa.g & 1900 kPa.g respectively. If a gas flow rate of 4000 SCMH is required what pressure must be added by a compressor at the upstream end of the pipeline add to achieve the flow rate?
The fluid has been specified at a standard condition of 20∞C temperature & 101.325 kPa.a pressure. A pump object set at a fixed flow rate has been used to model the compressor. The software will calculate what pressure the Compressor needs to add in to provide this flow rate.
Note: When a volumetric flow rate is specified for a compressor/pump object, this will always refer to the volume of flow at the density specified in the fluid zone associated with the pipe. Here the fluid zone has been specified at standard conditions and therefore in this instance 4000 m≥/hour is equivalent to same volume of gas in SCMH, i.e. the gas flow rate will be 4000 SCMH.
