A pipeline is to be used to transport natural gas to a destination 160 miles from the supply source. The delivery pressure required is 900 psi.g and the maximum operating pressure for the pipeline is 1200 psi.g. 


If a singe pipe without a compressor station is used then the start pressure required is 1538 psi.g, which exceeds the maximum operating pressure of the pipeline. Therefore a compressor station must be introduced at some intermediate point along the pipeline.
